Meet the Owner

Hi! I’m Carsyn, the founder of Blue Roots.

At 17, I packed my bags and moved eight hours south of my hometown in Ohio to attend the University of North Carolina. I was terrified to take that leap of faith and leave my family, friends, and everything I had ever known. Looking back now, I could not be more thankful that I did. UNC truly molded me into so much of the person I am today, not only because of the university itself, but because of the people God placed around me while I was there.

I grew up in a Christian household. We went to church every Sunday, read devotions before bed, and faith was always a part of my life. But college was the first time I really had the autonomy to decide what I wanted my own life and faith to look like.

Almost immediately, I was surrounded by the right people. People who kept me grounded in my faith, showed me Christ’s love through their actions, encouraged me to become more like Him, and eventually led me to a church that completely changed my life.

During my sophomore year, my grandfather passed away. It was the first passing I had ever experienced in my family, and I had never known a feeling that heavy. My grandfather was the pillar of a humble Christian man. He worked hard to provide for his family, spread the Gospel, and tried every day to become more like Christ.

With the heaviest feeling I had ever felt, I turned to the only place I knew: the Bible.

I picked it up and started reading Romans, his favorite book. I read nonstop and completely fell in love with God’s Word. I was constantly reading Scripture, talking about it, and even sending videos to my softball teammates about verses I had read and how we could choose to become more like Christ. My passion was overflowing. For the first time, I understood the peace and contentment that came from truly knowing Him and His Word.

During my junior year, I was baptized at the very church that had given me new life.

Years later, when I began dreaming up my boutique, I knew I wanted it to be built around the mountain-moving God I had gotten to know throughout those years. I wanted it to represent all that I came from, all that I was once scared to do, and all that God allowed me to overcome and become because I took that leap of faith.

And that is where Blue Roots came from.

Blue comes from Carolina, the university that built and inspired me and the place where my faith became my own. Roots comes from being rooted in Christ and knowing that He is the foundation beneath everything I do.

Our verse, 1 Corinthians 3:11, says, “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

He is our foundation. He is where we come from, who we should be living for, and ultimately, where we are going.

That is why Blue Roots will always be:

Inspired by where we’re from. Designed for where we’re going.
